Post 3 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 12-Jun-2008 14:26:03

Wow, thanks becky. I checked it out, and I got 5 of Steeven King's books. I've never read anything from him, but I've heard he's really good. It will let u download 5 books at a time, and they are in .DOC or .TXT formats. I've started reading "christine". Thanks again Becky. He does not have any dean Koontz and he only has one patricia cornwell book, and no J.K. Rowling, for anyone who reads those authors. Mike.

That's great. I'm glad you found it useful. I get the impression this site will be updated with more books regularly, so keep checking.

Hopefully it will, it sounds like a great alternative to Bookshare. I have a Web Braille account, but they don't have a lot of new books.

Post 6 by louisa (move over school!) on Thursday, 19-Jun-2008 13:24:18

It's a nice website though, I downloaded a book but adobe reader won't open it for some reason, not sure if it's the version I have.

Post 7 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Thursday, 19-Jun-2008 13:50:49

Oh, they're in pdf format? I don't like trying to use Adobe with Jaws, so I think I'll stick with Web Braille.

Post 8 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 19-Jun-2008 18:20:59

Not the ones I got, they were in .Doc and .txt formats.

Post 9 by louisa (move over school!) on Friday, 20-Jun-2008 7:52:24

really, so they are in different formats?

Post 10 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 20-Jun-2008 12:49:08

yeah this is a cool website. It's cool that you can just download books and it is that simple. I am sure I will use this a lot, especially since I am starting college in the spring.

Post 17 by computer guy (Newborn Zoner) on Monday, 18-Aug-2008 11:53:17

hi there, most of the books on this site that fall under fiction, are in TXT format. As for the PDF, you can easily convert them to plain text files by either using adobE acrobat or other tools that are available. There is one designed by jamal called "PDF converter" and you can get it by going to his site:
www.nonvisualdevelopment.org
it is under open source projects.

Can somebody tell me if any of the books on this site work on the braillenote?

Post 19 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Wednesday, 20-Aug-2008 17:37:51

I use a Pac Mate Bx with a braille display, so I'll be trying this site out very soon. Pac Mate also has a PDF to text converter that works really well. You will need Active Sync to install it. It's at: www.braillesoft/pacmate.htm

Post 23 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 27-Sep-2008 9:32:20

Lol that is the site I downloaded Rebecca from! Battle*Queen, I have an external hard drive which is able to hook up to my Braille note. However, if you have a compact flash card and a compact flash card reader, that works too! All I had to do was hook up my hard drive and copy the file onto my Braille Note, and that's how i read it! It works far better than trying to read on computer, since I prefer Braille, anyway! I like that site, and I dont delete, I just copy and paste and there it is! Isn't it great?

Man. I love audio books so much, but its so hard to get all the books you want. I used to say I won't read any books with jaws but, I do it now. its a shame everything isn't as easy in audio though. I like the sight though. thanks

Post 26 by cattleya (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Friday, 06-Nov-2009 15:23:09

Post 27 by CrystalSapphire (Uzuri uongo ndani) on Monday, 07-Dec-2009 11:12:53

i'll check this site out

Post 28 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Saturday, 12-Dec-2009 13:37:53

Overdrive and Net Library are both available from public libraries in most, if not all states. Contact your local public library and find out. Here in Columbus where I live, both are available. But smaller libraries in smaller cities usually offer one or the other. You have to have a library card, but once you get one and learn how to use either netlibrary or overdrive, you can download any book they have and listen to them without ever having to go to the library.

Post 29 by kinky blinky :) (telling it like it is) on Friday, 15-Jan-2010 20:52:42

Net library is useful especially for accademic texts - nverseen audio on there though

Post 30 by Charismatic (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 26-Jan-2010 8:31:01

Isn't there a site where one can download books that are in MP3? Because what I gather from this is that this site only gives you books that are in .doc/pdf/txt formats.

Post 31 by Philippa (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 19-Feb-2010 16:08:50

theres a site called librivox which has audio books in mp3, they are all read by volunteers, and sometimes different people read each chapter, but it is free, and you download each chapter in mp3 individually. its good, if you don't mind different people reading chapters.
the link is.

http://librivox.org/

hope some of you find it useful.
